Along with support from corporate sponsors, these dedicated and compassionate Walkers raised over $260,000 that will benefit the 102 feeding programs throughout the area that participated in the Walk. Seventy-three non- beneficiary groups, also participated in helping to raise funds to support our region's feeding programs and the advocacy work of the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger — the Walk's sponsoring organization.
Funds raised through the Walk are distributed to the beneficiary groups, which provide emergency food services to families and individuals throughout the five-county Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey areas. These organizations, staffed almost entirely by volunteers, work tirelessly to provide more than 41,000 meals per day to people in need.
The Walk is the only means of annual fundraising and volunteer recruitment for over 100 community feeding programs in Philadelphia, staffed almost entirely by volunteers. Walk donations support various services including free emergency food packages for families, home-delivered meals, hot meals at community locations, and the purchase of food service equipment. 80-90% of the money raised by these agencies is directly returned to them after the Walk, with only a small percentage retained by the Coalition to support the infrastructure of the Walk Against Hunger.

Over one hundred and seventy-five teams walked in 2007. Beneficiary teams — those that sponsor emergency feeding programs and work in other ways to fight hunger — share the funds raised. Non-beneficiary teams designate their pledges in support of those programs.
On Tuesday, July 10, Walk team leaders and friends gathered to celebrate the success of this year's event. After a festive Soup Kitchen Cook-off, we presented awards to some special teams. Thanks to everyone involved, including guest cook-off judge, Delilah Winder and General Assignment Reporter for myPHL News at Ten powered by NBC10 & Celebration MC, Tim Furlong.
